    Citation Risk for Claude

Check references against Crossref DOI records directly from your Claude conversation.

Citation Risk helps identify bibliographic metadata mismatches, incomplete references, and unresolved identifiers before submission or publication.

    Account and authorization

The connector requires an authenticated Citation Risk account. Complete account sign-in and authorization through the connector's browser-based flow. Do not paste passwords or access tokens into your conversation.

    What you can submit

Submit a DOI alone or a full citation containing a DOI. The connector accepts 1–25 references per check.

For fuller metadata comparisons, supply the title, publication year, journal, and complete author list alongside the DOI.

    Example prompts

    Check a DOI

“Use Citation Risk to check DOI 10.1038/nature14539.”

    Check a complete reference

“Use Citation Risk to check this reference and report any metadata mismatches:

    LeCun, Y., Bengio, Y., & Hinton, G. (2022). Deep learning. Nature. DOI: 10.1038/nature14539”

    Check several references

“Use Citation Risk to check the following references. Show what matches, what conflicts, and what remains unresolved.”

Then paste your numbered reference list.

    Understanding the results

Citation Risk compares supplied reference details with the exact Crossref DOI record and reports matches, mismatches, unavailable fields, unresolved identities, and lookup limitations.

A DOI-only submission checks the DOI record; it does not verify an author list or other citation details you did not supply.

For complete APA author lists, Citation Risk compares each supplied author surname and initial with the Crossref author list in order. Abbreviated lists, including “et al.”, and unparseable author lists remain incomplete.

Review the reported evidence and limitations before making corrections.

    Credits and saved results

The website and connector use the same account citation allowance.

A new check consumes one credit per submitted reference and saves results to your account History. An exact completed saved replay returns the stored results without consuming additional credits.

The 25-reference limit per check is a batch limit, not a statement of your remaining account balance.

    Scope and limitations

Citation Risk checks citation identity and bibliographic metadata. It does not evaluate scientific truth, research quality, or whether a source supports a claim.

References without a DOI and other URLs return Unresolved. The connector does not search for substitute sources.

An unresolved result or lookup limitation should be reviewed manually; it does not by itself prove that a source is fabricated.
